A variety of chalcedony Bloodstone gemstones are traditionally a semi-translucent to opaque dark green with red markings. They are also known as heliotrope which derives from the Greek word that means “to turn the sun” Ancient cultures believed they could turn the sun red if dipped in water. As the birthstone for March, they are said to bring luck, increase strength and preserve youth. Bloodstones are typically cut into cabochons or flat discs with a single facet and buff top. They can also be engraved and are often used in signet rings. At TOD Jewels we hold a large selection of loose natural bloodstones in stock.
